With literally thousands of escape games known to be in existence, it just makes sense that you’ll find certain themes repeating themselves from venue to venue. And while even the most cliché of themes can still produce an epic attraction, it’s the Original Themes that will always stand out. Creating storyworlds the likes of which we’ve never seen before, the Most Original Themes offer something fresh and new, even for the most experienced of players.
Escape Authority is honored to announce our 2019 Keys To Greatness – Most Original Theme winners:
The Floor is Lava
(San Diego, CA)
Growing up, we all played the imaginary game at some point. “The Floor is Lava! You can’t touch the floor!” Jumping from couch to coffee table to almost falling off the rocking chair – at least until our parents yelled at us for acting so wild. But here’s the thing – we’re grown-ups now, and The Floor is Lava! The Puzzalarium brings some of our fondest childhood memories to life in an entirely new and completely unique way. For the first time, we’re given a real-world environment specifically designed to offer a perfectly safe place to run, jump and just get crazy, amid a challenging game of social deduction.

Grandma’s Masterplan
(Los Angeles, CA)
Dear, sweet Grandma has passed away. Naturally, being her favorite grandkids, we head to her overly dated apartment one last time to help get her affairs in order. That’s when we find out that Grandma was an international super criminal with a penchant for robbing the most impenetrable banks, just because she could. With this in mind, does it surprise you even a little bit that her dying wish was for us to finish the job? So I ask you – do I even need to explain what makes this one of the Most Original Themes we’ve ever seen? Pop in your dentures, polish up your walker and join us for the heist of a lifetime!

It’s A Doggy Dog World
Level Games, presented by ESCapades LA
(North Hollywood, CA)
After hundreds and hundreds of different games, we’ve seen just about every challenge taken from just about every possible perspective. Breaking out of jails, stealing pirate loot, piloting space ships and even battling supernatural monsters. We’ve mastered just about every kind of business there is. Or so we thought. And then we encountered Dog Business™. Sure, all those other problems may seem important, but you have no idea what urgency is until the cats and squirrel help the mailman steal your red ball. It’s A Doggy Dog World truly is a one of a kind Escape Game Enthusiast’s Best Friend. So with our flea collars firmly snapped around our necks, it is our duty to officially confirm that Level Games is, indeed, a Good Boy.

Congratulations to our winners of the first ever Keys To Greatness – Most Original Theme award!
With nearly 1,000 games played across the site, being picked as one of the best three in the country is a well-earned honor to truly be proud of!
With so many deserving games worthy of recognition, our goal is to ensure these Keys To Greatness awards are attainable to all – not just those with blockbuster budgets that might be otherwise out of reach. As such, it’s important to note that with just one exception, a given game can only win in a single category – but every game will still be qualified to win the coveted Keys To Greatness – Best Game award on June 2, 2019.
*Although the games I’ve personally designed are consistently very highly rated by both enthusiasts and newer players alike, I cannot in good conscience nominate an attraction I created. As such, those games and the venues that call them home have been intentionally omitted from consideration for any Keys To Greatness award.
