Review: Wizards Workshop

Enter a fantastical world where even the biggest of skeptics will leave believing that magic is real!

Story

You are the students of a wizard. Unfortunately, your teacher made a mistake during an experiment and became a soul without a body.

You, his new students, need to put the little magic you’ve learned to use so you can save him before he completely disappears into the fourth dimension.

Capitalizing on the popularity and familiarity of the magical world of Harry Potter, 60out waves its wand to create a completely unique story-driven adventure sure to evoke a sense of familiarity while firmly standing on its own as its own dedicated, unique property.

Wizards Workshop drops players right into the middle of a fantastical storyworld where they play a key role in the narrative that unfolds around them. We, oh most untrained of all the wizards, must figure out how to use magic to save our teacher. And the result is, well, magical.

Scenic

Wizards Workshop exists within a whimsical world that spans some four different rooms, full of secret passages and jam-packed with surprises. The decor is straight out of a classic fairy tale, establishing its own unique identity in a world otherwise full of Harry Potter wanna-be’s.
60out uses their high level of scenic attention to detail to bring the main wizard character to (disembodied) life in a realistic way, leaving we young wizards-to-be easily immersed within the storyworld.

This game makes an incredibly fun use of transitions, from secret doors to even climbing, Wizards Workshop takes you outside your usual gameplay comfort zone in a definitive and clear statement of just how different the experience will be.

One of our favorite surprises of all is the large scale machine you’ll encounter in the workshop space itself – and the fact that you’ll actually need to figure out how to use it to save your wizard mentor. It’s a very fun and engaging way to climax a great story.

Puzzles

Appropriately, Wizards Workshop is a very tech-driven adventure – and one done right thanks to 60out’s clear understanding of how to implement such tech. Wizards Workshop embraces the concept that tech should be invisible to the player, seemingly resulting i magic before your very eyes. In no storyworld will that ever be more appropriate.

Wizards Workshop sees us quickly learning our craft in the classroom and then applying it in real world situations, literally casting spells with our wands and collecting required ingredients to craft magic potions.

The steps are logical and intuitive, making this game appealing to families with younger players, while still a satisfying challenge to our experienced group. Every challenge along the way organically furthered the narrative in a way that lead to a very clear climax – one that unfolds perfectly in the game’s finale – even leading to a surprising show moment that offers rare story resolution in a game.

Overall

60out masterfully crafted a whimsical and fantastical world of wizardry that was so easy for us to become lost in that it left us believing we might actually have learned a bit of magic. Our own imaginations aside, it’s clear based on this quality that 60out has found a way to make magic very, very real.

Wizards Workshop is just yet another example of how much 60out has grown and evolved to become an undisputed industry leader. No matter what their product or its theme, you can know you’ll be receiving an absolutely superior quality experience. Simply put, each new 60out game we’ve played has been better than the one that came before it – a trend that has been steadily growing, keeping us impressed, inspired and completely in love with their product.
