NOTICE: THIS REVIEW DISCUSSES ADULT SUBJECT MATTER OF A SEXUAL NATURE.
We finished the sex game prematurely. Let’s discuss.
You had an outstanding night out with your friends. Nobody knows the details but it looks that you are trapped in the room of Lulu White. If you were passing through New Orleans in the early 1900s, the Storyville district was the place to be. A red light zone to rival those of Europe, it was a great place to spend all your hard-earned cash.
Lulu looks okay, but not the kind of woman you’d want to mess with. You only have 60 minutes to leave her room, or deal with her anger, by the way, you had no money to pay for the services last night….
I want to start off by pointing out that at the time of our visit, Code to Escape (then Breakout Florida) was very family-run. As such, the subject matter of this game stood out as a bit of a shocker to us – and perhaps, that was the point. The venue’s owners began each game by personally telling the backstory to set up the experience. For The Night Out at the BAD GIRL, an extra step was added to the process — literally covering the ears of their young daughter who was present at the time. There was something endearing, if not entirely bizarre about the scenario that really built our anticipation for what we were about to experience.
Ok boys and girls. We’ve hired an unattractive prostitute, but have no money to pay her. Who’s ready to get immersed?
Lulu’s, um, hooker lair (?) is, obviously a bedroom – and notwithstanding its contents, a rather basic bedroom at that.
A quick search through her dresser shows us that she’s an avid collector of skimpy underwear and whips. There’s not much else to find here. Clearly she’s a one track kind of gal.
For some reason, Lulu hides a secret breakroom complete with a sink. We assume she’s concerned that her prostitute image may be tarnished if people knew she washed her hands?
If you think this game sounds bizarre and disjointed, you nailed it.
My what interesting combinations some of your word locks use. That not withstanding…
I can’t believe we finished so quickly.
Honestly, we were disappointed that we couldn’t last the full hour.
We’re trying to be serious about this, but it’s just really hard.
We’ve pondered for a long time how to represent The Night Out at the BAD GIRL. While we did have fun, there’s simply no excusing or justifying the ability for a party of two to finish a sixty minute game in just nine minutes and fourteen seconds. At least we finally get to put this matter to bed.
To be crystal clear, we did not accidentally skip any puzzle steps. Nothing in the room was broken. We literally played this game completely as it was designed to run. It’s honestly not that this game was too easy; the puzzles themselves were fine enough (though not super difficult.) There just were not nearly enough of them to fill out a full game from start to finish. I would have expected a game of such adult subject matter to have been much harder.
It’s been quite a while since we visited this venue – which as we mentioned was at the time branded Breakout Florida. It is our sincere hope that they’ve heavily modified this game since to make it a bit more memorable for the right reasons. Unfortunately for us, it’s our role to review the game as we experienced it. The truth is, we’d likely have essentially forgotten all about it again had we not finished with such a ridiculously record time. Needless to say, we’ve never come close to doing it so quickly in hundreds of other times. No matter how hard we tried.
But sometimes, you just have to stop and look at the train wreck. At the end of the day, what we walked away with is an experience we’ll joke about for the rest of our lives – and to that level, The Night Out at the BAD GIRL truly left us satisfied and smiling.
