Bring your wooden stakes, holy water, garlic cloves, and crucifixes – it’s gunna be a looooong night.
Vampires are real. They hide behind their wisdom and experience, but you know the truth. You are a team of government agents chosen to end this threat to humanity. You have just an hour to hunt and stop a vampire to prove your worth. Will you prevail against the undead, or will you become one of them?
The stuff of nightmares truly exists. From Bram Stoker to Stephen King, the lore of vampires has been passed on through the generations. No longer a myth, investigative teams are being sent to the home of Count Dracula himself to end his blood-sucking reign of tyranny on the world.
The mission is to find a way inside the grounds of the night walking count, uncover the location of his “resting place”, and take him out before it’s too late. Can ones deepest fears be faced in order to end end Dracula? There’s only one hour until sundown. It’s time to find out.
Dracula: The Final Hour begins as most vampire hunting stories often do, in the most precarious, dimly-lit, stone-walled entryway. The design of the hallway effectively creates tension in its claustrophobic design and lack of bright lighting; it effectively sets the tone for a quest into the castle of the most dangerous vampire ever known.
Torches flicker in the darkness and stained glass windows filter in the smallest amount of light, casting a foreboding shadow on the visitors and the objective at hand.
Once deeper inside the lair, a sophisticated, ancient, and yet advanced study can be found, housing Count Dracula’s personal coffin. A fireplace is inset within one of the walls with an elaborate wooden mantelpiece above. For a creature that can be destroyed via a wooden stake through the heart, he sure does allow for a large amount of wooden furniture in his interior design choices.
Fox in a Box LA truly knocked it out of the park with their seamless transportation of vampire hunters to archaic Transylvania. From the moment the experience begins and continuing throughout, the scenic design in Dracula’s castle is both consistently beautiful and detailed. Stunning effort and attention went into the design of the ceiling and stone archways, which show out in a big way. There are even a few secret compartments and passageways that help complete the transformation. Investigators brave enough to enter the grounds will be rewarded handsomely with a fully immersive journey through this crypt-like keep.
The puzzles hiding within Dracula: The Final Hour assist in creating an experience like an ancient haunted house, full of traps and tricks around every corner. Although many of the furniture pieces and decor appear a bit worse for wear, several of the puzzles are quite advanced in their technology, thus highlighting the lengthy life of this night-dwelling vampire.
Many of the decipherable objects found throughout this escape game make a lot of logical sense for their presence in the game. Puzzles exist in old books, desk drawers, candlesticks, and armories. Not a single one of these feels out of place by any stretch, and yet, each continues to be different from the one before it. Much of the puzzle-solving feels almost like diffusing traps, laid to protect Dracula in his slumber.
Dracula: The Final Hour implements the use of teamwork in its gameplay more than many others. The majority of the puzzles found within require multiple sets of hands, eyes, or ears in order to expedite the solving process. In order to successfully extinguish the vampiric threat, government agents must band together like never before.
Dracula: The Final Hour leads teams on a hunt for an iconic horror character through the depths of his lair. The storytellers at Fox in a Box not only re-imagine this classic theme into their escape game version, but also create a new story within the world of Count Dracula. Combining the perfect blend of challenging and rewarding puzzling, plus dazzling set design and execution, Dracula: The Final Hour takes its place near the top of the list of Fox in a Box LA’s best.
Honestly, what is there to say about Fox in a Box LA anymore? Their rooms are consistently impressive, immersive, and enjoyable. Each theme feels on brand and unique in every way. There is never a question of whether or not we want to do the next Fox in a Box room, but rather, when do we get the opportunity? We can’t wait for more.
