What better place for a chainsaw massacre than in Texas!
Your car broke somewhere in Texas, in the middle of nowhere. It’s getting late so you need a shelter. You found an abandoned shed, but someone locked the door on you from the outside… You blocked the door but it won’t take long for him to break in…
Looks like our team has gotten ourselves into another dire situation. But this time, our lives are at stake. It seems a serial killer is on the loose and wants to claim more victims.
However, to our advantage, it appears that the lunatic is not very intelligent. Why would he lock the door from the outside if he plans on breaking into the shed? It would seem easier for him to just burst in and do his job. Anyhow, this buys our group some extra time to find the key to the motorcycle in the abandoned area (the goal of the game, as indicated by the game master) and earn our freedom.
The first room in the shed looks like an old, run down workshop. There are tools (real wrenches, screwdrivers, blades, gears, etc.) scattered everywhere. Along one wall is a cabinet holding empty gallons of paint, rusty cans of grease, buckets, and other items consistent with the theme.
Across from this area is a long, locked chest and a workbench containing more tools, a small die press machine, and wooden boards. There is also a large freezer occupying the back corner. And, in the center of the room is the ticket to freedom: the motorcycle itself!
As our team proceeds deeper into the game, the shed appears to be not so abandoned after all. One of the other sections has a large well in which many different body parts have been placed. The presence of fresh blood splatters indicates that terrible things have happened here in the recent past. This horrific environment induces a sense of urgency to find the key to the motorcycle and get out of town as soon as possible.
At first glance, it seems that accomplishing this mission will be a very overwhelming task. Due to the large amount of props scattered throughout the shed, it is almost impossible to know where to begin looking for the key.
However, completing the first challenge paves the way for an efficient flow from one activity to the next. The game play is mostly linear, and it becomes obvious on how one should progress throughout the adventure.
Chainsaw Massacre does a wonderful job using the objects present in the shed to complete the puzzles. This provides players with an opportunity to engage in several hands on activities.
There is also a good mix of technology and standard combination and key locks present throughout the game, and all of the challenges relate well to the horror-themed genre
Chainsaw Massacre is definitely intense and fun to play. The combination of an intriguing story, authentic scenery, and cleverly-designed puzzles results in an overall satisfying experience. In addition, the theme is definitely appropriate for the venue’s location.
Due to the linear features of the game and the smaller quantity of puzzles, Chainsaw Massacre would be appropriate for escape-game enthusiasts of all levels. However, this adventure may not be suitable for those having an aversion to the subject of horror due to the graphic setting.
