Story

LCP Corporation is looking for brave, smart, and adventurous travelers to try their new teleporter! They have had many successful animal trials and now it is time to try it on humans. Are you brave enough to give it a try? If so, sign up today and your group will be able to travel to the space station! (LCP Corporation and their employees are not responsible for person or persons being lost in space or time, or and not limited to being sent to another dimension or location that is not the space station. By enrolling in this trial period, you acknowledge that you nor your family will hold LCP Corporation liable in case you do not return to earth.)

After all the waivers are signed and safety briefings are administered, the LCP corporation (a completely legitimate and fully trustworthy company) sends you on your way to the space station. What could possibly go wrong? A lot, of course!

Instead of the space station, travelers are beamed into an alien vessel and trapped inside unless they can prove themselves worthy of being released by completing a series of challenging tasks.

Although the clues are there for those paying attention, the best part of this story comes in its conclusion, where everything is tied together in a hilariously comedic way just before being beamed back to Earth.

Scenic

One might never expect a quantum teleporter to be hidden in plain sight, which explains why the LCP employee ushers travelers into a small closet to begin the journey. After being seated in the teleporter, the journey begins by being quite literally transported to an interstellar destination amid a flurry of sound, lights, and fog.

Once onboard the spacecraft, there’s everything one might expect in an alien’s home: flashing buttons with indiscernible symbols, neon tubing in all shapes and sizes, and a large terrarium filled with strange and exotic creatures. All of this is clearly hand-crafted with great attention to detail in an effort to fully immerse travelers in the story world.

Teleporter Trials is also a masterclass in how to use space effectively. While no larger than most typical escape rooms, the sheer number of reveals in this room is staggering. The space almost seems to shift and change like a puzzle box as more and more secrets are revealed, with sections opening–and sometimes even closing– to alter the path travelers take.

Puzzles

Being a high-tech futuristic ship, there are no physical locks or keys to be found here. Instead, a laundry list of items await completion to move from room to room.

While there’s certainly a lot to do, every task feels natural to the world and nothing ever outstays its welcome. There is also a clear sense of flow and progression that keeps the pacing on track through a surprisingly large number of puzzles.

With so many tasks to complete, it should also come as no surprise that there are an amazing variety of puzzles in Teleporter Trials. While almost everything requires some raw brainpower, of course, there are also puzzles that rely on the solver’s tactile perception, auditory senses, and dexterity. Even better, there are also optional easter eggs (that stay true to the theme, of course) to find hidden throughout the room that will net travelers some extra swag once they escape!

Naturally, the clue system is just as immersive as the rest of the game and takes the form of an adorable sentient robot that rotates overhead, monitoring progress throughout. Even when clues aren’t needed, it’s still plenty of fun getting a quippy one-liner from your future robot overlord!

OverallWhile still a traditional sixty minute escape game, time seems to move differently in space; there is simultaneously so much to do in Teleporter Trials that at times we didn’t think there was a chance we’d escape. Every puzzle and task was just so much fun that one hour felt more like fifteen minutes.

Although we enjoyed everything we played at Lock, Clock, and Peril, Teleporter Trials stands out as their crowning achievement. It clearly implements the lessons learned from each of the previous games at the venue, displaying an evident desire to outdo themselves with each and every new experience they create.
