Remote Play Review: Vet Office

RATING: 5 Keys          RESULT: Win           REMAINING: 7:26

Dog gone it! The dog’s gone, it just disappeared!

Vet Office is an existing, physical escape game at the the venue’s brick and mortar location – retrofitted to be offered as a live, online experience. Although altered slightly to better flow in this new medium, the game is, at it’s core, essentially the same as what guests will find should they visit Fuzzy Logic Escape Room in person. You can find our companion review of the brick and mortar version of this game here. To read our Pro-Tips on how to best enjoy this new Remote Play genre, click here.

Story

Stories have been circulating around the town that the local veterinarian has been acting very strange lately. Even more suspicious is the rash of pet disappearances around the neighborhood over the past few weeks. You have a strong suspicion the two are linked somehow.

The stakes are raised when your cat goes missing too! It’s time for a rescue operation! You must be careful – the vet office has a security system that has to be deactivated. Otherwise, if you get caught snooping around, the authorities will think that you’re the animal kidnappers!

See what clues you can find to uncover what’s really going on behind closed doors and collect the info needed to rescue your beloved pet!

Cats and dogs and hamsters – oh my! They’re all missing. Only one person, the local veterinarian, could possibly have such easy access to everyone’s pets. But… he couldn’t? Could he? There’s only one way to find out – some light breaking and entering to see if we can sniff out any evidence of his crimes. Hopefully we aren’t barking up the wrong tree with this one.

With the help of a brave accomplice, would be puppy rescuers can try to save the day remotely. So if the Veterinarian returns before the answers are found, simply log off and act like you have no clue what the authorities are talking about when they question you.

Scenic

It’s entirely possible that Fuzzy Logic Escape Room moved into an old veterinarian’s office and turned it into an escape game.

While this theme is not particularly difficult to nail, small details do sell the space accurately. The break in begins in the waiting room, complete with a receptionists desk, plenty of animal products, and of course an office pet.

The exam room looks very much like one that would be found in a real office, including the counter, cabinet, and sink fixture along one wall that is found in literally every doctor’s office in the world.

An X-Ray light board, animal photographs, and a few tightly locked storage boxes round out the room. While the scenic in Vet Office doesn’t produce an astounding “WOW” reaction upon first entering the game, it does something equally as valuable – at no point does this appear to be an escape game themed to an animal doctors office.

Puzzles

Vet Office is a relatively linear game that works very well for the remote play medium. Every puzzle is completely in storyworld and uses items that would actually be found in such a setting.

With a perfectly crafted flow of logical and intuitive steps to break into the exam room, there is no point in the game where the pace slows. Plenty of locks to crack open and secrets to uncover cause the brief sixty minutes that the doctor is out to fly by in a frantic scramble.

A wonderful mix of simple solves, clever “ah ha!” moments, and trickier sleuthing makes this a great game for all ages and skill levels. While the entire game is undeniably fun, the highlight is appropriately at the end of challenge – a wild race around the office that is likely to unleash tons of laughs!

Overall

Fuzzy Logic Escape Room has created a game with a very unique theme, simple yet effective set design, and truly fun puzzle track. While this would surely be a very enjoyable experience if played live, it also translates perfectly to remote play. This smooth adaptation is thanks both to the game’s design as well as the way it is being run by the venue.

The team’s Zoom video chat is aided by a supplemental “Trello card”. The page has room and puzzle photos as well as a lock inventory that gets checked off by a second game host as the locks are used. Teams also have access to the in-game overhead cameras and can freely switch between that view and the POV of the game host. This proved to be helpful in establishing the physical space and entertaining when watching the host scramble around the office. We have previously mentioned that the remote experience host plays a big part in bringing both the storyworld and the game itself to life. Jayson and Andrew at Fuzzy Logic Escape game absolutely understand this. High energy, quick wit, and a true ability to go with the flow of the group turn the game host into another member of the team, making for a fun and exciting attempt at saving all the pets in town!
